Four Common Combinations for Chrysanthemum Tea! Although it boasts numerous health benefits, it’s not suitable for these five groups of people.

Chrysanthemum tea is one of the most commonly consumed floral teas in daily life, and it’s also a rare health-enhancing tea. Many people know that drinking chrysanthemum tea can help clear the liver, improve vision, and cool down the body by reducing internal heat. However, chrysanthemum tea isn’t all beneficial—it also has some potential drawbacks. When people brew and drink chrysanthemum tea regularly, it can bring both advantages and disadvantages to their health. Let’s take a closer look below. Common Combinations 1. Chrysanthemum + Flos Albiziae: Flos Albiziae clears heat, moistens the lungs, relieves sore throat and improves voice quality, and promotes bowel movements. Adding Flos Albiziae enhances its effectiveness in relieving the foreign-body sensation caused by chronic pharyngitis and can also help alleviate hoarseness. 2. Chrysanthemum + Bitter Almonds: Bitter almonds are commonly used in traditional Chinese medicine as an antitussive and can also lubricate the intestines and promote bowel movements. They’re particularly suitable for people suffering from phlegm and cough. You can either crush them and boil for 10 minutes or grind them into powder and steep them in hot water. The recommended dosage is 3–5 grams per serving. However, bitter almonds should not be taken over a long period, and they’re not recommended for infants and young children. Note: The bitter almonds mentioned here refer to a type of Chinese medicinal herb, whereas the sweet almonds we often eat as snacks are a different variety. 3. Chrysanthemum + Goji Berries: Goji berries have a delicious taste and nourish the liver and kidneys, enrich essence, and improve eyesight. When brewed together, this combination is ideal for people who overuse their eyes over a long period. 4. Chrysanthemum + Hawthorn: Hawthorn helps strengthen the spleen, stimulate appetite, aid digestion, and relieve food stagnation. It also has effects such as lowering blood lipids, blood pressure, strengthening the heart, and combating arrhythmia. Combined with chrysanthemum, it can help reduce fat and lower blood pressure. Patients with obesity or hypertension may benefit from drinking more of this tea. Five Groups of People Who Should Avoid Drinking Chrysanthemum Tea 1. Pregnant Women and Children: Chrysanthemum tea is cooling in nature and sweet in flavor, making it highly effective at clearing away internal heat. However, pregnant women have weakened immune systems and relatively weak spleen and stomach functions. Consuming chrysanthemum tea can easily irritate the gastrointestinal tract, causing symptoms like abdominal pain and diarrhea, which are detrimental to the healthy development of the fetus. Children are at a peak stage of growth and development, with abundant yang energy. Drinking chrysanthemum tea can deplete their yang energy, so it’s best to avoid it altogether. 2. People with Cold Constitution: Individuals with a cold constitution tend to feel cold, have a weak body, weak spleen and stomach functions, and low immunity. Even in summer, they may experience cold hands and feet, diarrhea, and gastrointestinal discomfort. Since chrysanthemum tea is cooling in nature, it will only exacerbate these symptoms and harm their health. 3. People with Yang Deficiency: If someone with yang deficiency continuously drinks chrysanthemum tea, which has the effect of clearing heat and eliminating fire, it can easily damage their vital energy, leaving them increasingly weaker. 4. People with Typhoid or Common Cold: Generally, typhoid or common colds are caused by exposure to cold. Given the nature of chrysanthemum tea, it’s not suitable for those suffering from such colds. Moreover, people with a cold accompanied by pharyngitis should especially avoid chrysanthemum tea, as it stimulates gastric acid secretion, aggravates throat inflammation, delays recovery, and reduces the quality of recovery. 5. People with Allergies: In real life, some individuals are allergic to chrysanthemum tea. Chrysanthemums contain large amounts of chrysanthemum flowers, pollen, and various natural trace elements. Drinking chrysanthemum tea can trigger allergic reactions such as skin redness and rashes. Therefore, people with allergies may experience adverse effects from drinking chrysanthemum tea, which could harm their health.
